Reminds me [via American Digest] of the controversy surrounding this fabulous Marine recruiting commercial that the city of San Francisco wouldn't allow the Marines to film:

This is a slap in the face to anyone who has served in the military or is currently serving. The Marines "unwanted intruders"? These people seem to forget that our military is all VOLUNTARY. These brave men and women volunteer for military service. Obviously this is being spearheaded by a bunch of aging hippies who long for the glory days of sit ins, love ins, etc. They are trying so hard to be relevant, unfortunately they are coming across as complete idiots. I think that the federal and state governments should withdraw all funding that goes to Berkley. They want to decide who is in their city then they can pay for everything themselves!
These people don't seem to realize that it is because of the military that they are able to have the freedom to speak their minds. Hundreds of thousands of military lives have been lost to preserve our freedoms. As a popular bumper sticker states "Freedom is not Free". They may not like the military or what it stands for but they don't have the right to drive them out of their city. Peaceful protest is a cornerstone of our rights, but being a bully is not. Shame on the city of Berkley!! As the daughter of an Air Force veteran (Vietnam) and the granddaughter of a World War II veteran who gave his life for his country I am particularly appalled and saddened by this action.

What kind of fascist crazies are you in Berkley? Hitler would be proud this. Keep trying to remove Americas symbols of peace, yes the Marines are America! Freedom means" free to choose", when you remove freedom for others, you remove what is American about you. Americans all over this country will pour it's judgement on your idiotic scheme to remove freedom from our Marines! God help you ...

I Love Berkley. This is a country of freedoms and we are suppose to value protest..you must remember we did not get this country started by believing what we were told to. Fiercely independent spirit, vocalizing our beliefs is what freedom is.
One of the basic tenets of the American Revolution was freedom of choice, or am I wrong. Freedom to go, or not, to the religion of your choice. Free to chose who leads us and freedom to be dumber than a box of rocks (been there myself a time or three).
I am a 20 year Air Force veteran who is fiercely proud of my service. I am am fiercely proud and defensive, even chauvinistic, about all service members who served there country honorably and faithfully for over 200 years. We have fought and died and have been forgotten to defend Berkley's right to be dumber than a box of rocks, or worse.
I served in Viet Name so I am well old enough to remember the hippy dippy days of the 60's. And remember all of the BS that went with it and Berkley was certainly a big part of those days.
So, if Berkley choses to be dumber than a box of rocks, or whatever, so be it. But the rest of us have the right to boycott that box of rocks and every thing that has stood for. Cut of federal monies intended for Berkley doesn't go far enough. Cut of funds to San Francisco (a city that I love).
This is unSat. The Mayor is bending over for "CODEPINK'' a group of liberal, communist, terrorist supporting women who have nothing better than support terrorist activities bioth here and abroad. Stand your ground Capt Lund. Vets from all over support you and your mission. The terrorist say that the Marines are bullying and lieing to young people to get them in not telling them of the possibility of war, but that is a lie, as you see new , young Marines faces as they come across the grinder proud of what they are, they know the time will come for them to go to war. That is the job that they are in and that is what they join for. Ask any service member or vet. Shame on Berkley, Berkleys Mayor and "CODEPINK".
