Anti-Racist Blog has a report with pictures from the 'Palestine Awareness Week' festivities at University of Michigan. Looks pretty pathetic actually (surprise): Welcome to "Palestine Awareness Week" at the University of Michigan. The poster for the 'Introducing Palestine' talk has endorsements on it from Physicians for Human Rights, Amnesty International and what appears to be an ad from Kaplan Test Prep.
Presumably, this is part of the "Israel Apartheid Week" festivities which Scholars for Peace in the Middle East is calling for faculty to speak out against. Not all is dark in academia.
Thanks for posting this.
You are perceptive to pick up on the Kaplan test prep sponsor. They were added late yesterday, and when I called their office they had no idea. Apparently Kaplan allows sponsored student groups to use their printers, and the Muslim Student Association used them to make the flyers, and gave Kaplan credit without their knowledge. Kaplan has apparently asked MSA to be removed from the posters.
Tonight's speaker is self hating Israeli Neeve Gordon. To round out the week is the founder of the hate site Electronic Intifada who plans to talk about peace.
On interesting thing from last night that I should mention. The anti-Israel speaker claimed to have personal knowledge that Barak Obama was anti-Zionist and pro-Palestinian when he was an organizer in Chicago. That clip is being downloaded by someone I know, and I'll let you know what that is online.
Thanks again.
