A new way of communicating the fraud, from the folks at Take a Pen:

Leaving aside the issue that Richard Landes pointed out when I asked him -- that this video implies (not sure that's the intent) that the boy was actually shot and killed there, something no theory I'm aware of holds -- Is this effective? I'm not sure. What do you think?

I think that, the more ambitious or outrageous the counter-claim against the Al Dura myth is, the less that counter-claim will be believed.

It is better to be more realistic and grounded with any counter-claims. That is to say, don't say that you know exactly where the Palestinian gunman was standing...right next to the cameraman...and that you know that this one mystery person shot Mohammed Al-Dura almost head on. It's better to say that he was evidently shot from some point straight ahead of the Al-Duras and not to the side, and that this means that the bullet probably came from Palestinian positions.

The guy here was so specific that you felt he was going beyond what the evidence would soundly allow. This can only hurt the cause of Richard Landes, et al.

It'll be effective with those who already hate Israel. Those who don't will ignore it, I think.

Let's wait and see.

The objective, I think, is to get the message out -- and this medium will get to people who fall asleep during the usual presentation.

If some impressionable teenagers, raised on years of "we must avenge al-Dura!", see this and start thinking for themselves -- well, it'll have been worth it for that alone.

respectfully,
Daniel in Brookline
