The Arleigh Burke-class destroyer USS Fitzgerald (DDG 62) fires a five-inch .54-caliber MK 45 gun during routine training operations off the coast of Okinawa, Japan, Aug. 28, 2009. The weapon provides fire coverage against surface targets, air threats and shore targets. Fitzgerald is part of Destroyer Squadron 15 and the USS George Washington (CVN 73) Carrier Strike Group, which are under way in the western Pacific Ocean.
