Now Iran says terrorists are unacceptable. Who knew.

Or maybe that's only terrorists who attack them?

Interestingly, this terrorist allegedly comes from a group called Jundallah, Soldiers of God.

Sounds kind of like Hezbollah (Party of God) doesn't it.

Go figure.

Of course the US and Britain have been blamed but the real news is that Pakistan is being held accountable.

Apart from the obvious dangers inherent in this scenario, and with respect for the human toll exacted by the terrorist - one wonders if Iran's reprisals will result in a war crimes trial, censure by the UN Human Rights Commission, negative attention from Amnesty International or Human Rights Watch?

Apologies for the goofy link - I'm sure it will be fixed soon:)

AI? HRW? They're probably sending Iran the Google coordinates of Jewish towns.

Well this whole situation is outta control.

First, the rights groups are so busy attacking Israel they ignore hundreds of millions of people in the ME alone who live in closed societies and have few if any rights, especially if they are women, gays, minorities or possess big mouths.

For example in Iran there have been reports of death penalties leveled at protestors and jailed protestors raped. Largely peaceful demonstrations against an election which appeared to be rigged resulted in terrible violence and death. Ahmadijenad in between bouts of denying the Holocaust denies the presence of gays in Iran.

There are horrendous situations requiring urgent attention and they are getting none. I think the latest is we've made accomodations with Sudan and refused to meet with the Dalai Lama because China would have been offended. Or something.

So much for Truth to Power!

As far as Jews are concerned, how many live in the Middle East/Central Asia anymore? It still isn't safe in Europe and the old blood libels and slanders and conspiracy theories are resurfacing.

And since when have Jews EVER lived as equals in the Middle East? What about other minorities in Iran for example, like the Ba'hai? Note we're not even discussing victims of REAL genocides and deliberate ethnic cleanings, mass rapes and murders and mutilations like millions in Africa alone.

No. It is more important to attack Israel whilst exonerating the terrorists who harm innocents.

Meanwhile on the M.E./Central Asia violence front I just read an AP headline claiming another suicide in Pakistan has killed several people. At a university.

So I'm wondering - what is ANY organized state supposed to do about terrorism?

Even if you don't like the state, don't its citizens have the right to walk down the street, attend university or mosque, disco or mall or pet market without fear of being blown up?

I think about that too every time I go to the airport.

The airport here used to be a lot of fun, one could visit, have a meal, greet friends and relatives or see them off, enjoy the magnificent vista of the planes.

Now, it all feels like a cartoon about the Soviet Union.

And, if you are flying - well you know the drill. Off with your shoes! rings, belts, jewelry - one time I forgot to remove a ring and havoc ensued with me being scanned, sitting on a chair with my feet in the air in front of hundreds of people.

This was AFTER I almost fell on my nose unlacing the Doc Martens:)

Never again with Doc Martens:)

So I'm laughing but it isn't funny. And nobody seems to know what to do about it either.

Jundallah... I like it.

What, I wonder, is the Arabic for "atheists of Allah"? That might make a good name for a protest movement.

iran , accused usa and bitain, and repraislis will be on those countries , because according to news iran found communications between junalaah and usa and britian.

so how will iran repraisils take shape........ummmmm.....do you remeber those jeweish tanks in the usa that said years ago that minorities should be armed in iran to destablize iran governement, i still have links to their websites.. well, their findings where published on the web. they should be held responsibals. well they talked about it so they accused themselves.

by the why i feel the core issue was missed in this terrorist attack

and the core issue is virgins in heaven.

Hello, Arabian.

I am a little confused by your post.

Do you think that this is primarily a religious matter?

Also, I believe the person who committed this atrocity may have been from Baluchistan, which isn't in Iran but in Pakistan, and where there is quite a bit of unrest already including resistance to the Pakistani government. And, there are smuggling rings active in the area and plenty of drug traffic.

However the Baluch are not aligned as far as I know to the other groups which are waging war against the Pakistani government or the West, ie al Qaeda and the Taliban and which are centered in Waziristan and on either side of the Afghan border with Pakistan.

To the best of my knowledge the Baluch are a separate language/ethnographic group comprised of several tribes, at least one of which is Arab, and I have read they have a religion of their own predating Sunni Islam. So religion might be a motive in this crime but not necessarily as a typical Sunni/Shi'a conflict but I'm just guessing.

What do you think? What about the economic motives ie smuggling?

Now it is true there are Baluch groups which straddle the Iranian/Pakistan border (Sistan region) as well as residing in Northeast Iran/Afghanistan.

So. Just because somebody draws a border doesn't mean tribal groups, especially if they are nomadic or semi-nomadic, necessarily feel part of the countries with the borders (or part of only one of the countries!)

Some of those borders are artificial and don't make all that much sense. For example look at Iraq.

PS I have been waiting for the Jews to be blamed for this.

Sigh.

Isn't it possible the tribal, ethnic, religious and international violence in the world has some causes besides Jews? Virgins for example? Or maybe tribal, ethnic, religious and international stress?

Also if you're looking for culprits the great powers have been arming tribal groups in the ME/Central Asia and playing them off against each other for centuries. Also there have been inter-tribal wars for ages and struggles for dominance among local ethnic groups for millenia.

So why blame Jewish think tanks? Jews and Israelis are victims of the Great Powers too, and their proxy wars and struggles for dominance and control of sea and land lanes and resources. This includes terrorism and wars committed by people armed with both American and Soviet/Russian weapons.

While we're on the subject though - if minorities were treated fairly and freedom of expression were respected, and if people weren't such bigots - why would people need or want weapons in the first place?

So - do you think people in Iran are generally treated fairly or that it's an open society? When you make your assessment please consider women, gays and dissidents.

What about the press? Do you think the Iranian press is either accurate or free? Don't forget they've expelled foreign journalists and their president routinely denies facts of history.

What about Pakistan for that matter?

Finally, if you think it's ok for Israelis and other Jews to be attacked by Palestinian and other Arab terrorists why isn't it ok for Iranians to be attacked also?

Should they just sit and take it up the wazoo or what?

Have you heard any calls for a restrained or "proportionate" response?
