Object lesson in how Socialism rots a society, lesson #324598:

Via Hot Air: Pelosi: Hey, quit your job - we'll pay for your health coverage! Where Ed Morrisey notes that Pelosi doesn't quite define the word "entrepreneurial" the same way you or I would.

Oh I see. Having healthy, creative people rots a society huh.

Respectfully, what's your suggestion for people who lose their jobs?

What's your suggestion for people who are trapped in dead-end jobs simply because they need health care benefits, whereas they could well use their talents (and contribute more) in situations more suitable to their abilities?

What about people who have to work past retirement age because their spouse or kids don't have insurance and (obviously) can't get Medicare?

BY THE WAY - there are ways of being productive that don't involve working for other people.

Find a way to decouple health insurance from employment, as John McCain proposed, then, but you still have to produce enough to pay for it.

Nancy Pelosi has no business encouraging people to quite their jobs and suck off the government teat. If you're not a good enough guitar player to make a living at it, then it's good to remember the old saying, "Don't quite your day job!" It's not up to me or anyone else to work so you can slum around trying to find yourself.

From each according to his ability, to each according to his need is a dead end fantasy. Self employment is great, and we have a wonderful, almost perfect method of determining whether you are productive or not -- when people are willing to compensate you, of their own free will, for what you do.

Greece has universal health care, incredibly generous pension plans, etc. ... it's a veritable utopia!

Sophia,

there are ways of being productive that don't involve working for other people.

It depends what 'productive' produces.
People can be independently productive but not necessarily on a scale to supply them with their daily needs and assuage their wants.

Anyway I was led to believe that Americans will have to buy health insurance or pay a fine. How much is at stake?
Will standing outside a bank/supermarket/whatever playing guitar/violin/accordion bring in enough money to pay for the insurance and provide reasonable food to provide the nutrition to maintain that side of one's health?

Fine.

Here's what I suggest.

Once you get too old to work, that's it.

Out onto the ice.

Oh wait I forgot some folks.

Recession - job loss - out onto the ice.

Along with your dependents.

Bad guitar players like Van Gogh - out onto the ice - oh wait - he died young and his brother shortly thereafter because people didn't think he "played the guitar" well enough, ie nobody bought his paintings (which now sell for millions).

OUT ONTO THE ICE.

Get disabled? TFB.

Out.

As for affording health care? Who says we can afford wars.

No one is talking about the elderly or people unable to care for themselves. Pelosi is encouraging perfectly able-bodied young people to quit their jobs and dabble.

Out on the ice with her!

Sophia, we are all here, and are able to criticize the Obama government BECAUSE the US is able to AFFORD wars which prevent this country from sinking to the level of socialist, national socialist, islamofascist-philic europe.
