Local columnist Janet Tassel emails with the following revealing anecdote:
Last week Dan and I were in New York, and one morning we were at the Jewish Historical Society near Union Square. While we were looking at things, a well-dressed lady of a certain age bounces by and starts to make conversation, and it turns out she's a Yiddish performer/composer from Swampscott. While she was trying to get us to invite her to our congregation or luncheon or whatever, I asked her whom she was planning to vote for. Well, she says, she always votes Democratic. I say, "But you're an ardent Jewish person, a Yiddishist. Aren't you swayed by the fact that Bill Hudak is a tremendous supporter of a strong Israel?" "Well, yeah, I suppose," she says. "But where does he stand on gay marriage and abortion?"
True story.
Priorities.
I'd like to ask her if she knows where Israel stands on these issues?
...and, if she knew that, wouldn't she want to support candidates that support Israel?
Too many people seem to be oblivious to this. In America, gay people want total acceptance in all walks of life, up to and including a redefinition of the word 'marriage' to include them. In the Middle East, as in much of the rest of the world, gay people are under siege, and coming out can be a death sentence.
Israel is a safe haven for gays in the Middle East. Does Israel not deserve the support of America's Left for that alone?

You folks think she's a traitor, but I call that woman a fine U.S. citizen because she's putting her concerns for the rights and liberties of citizens of THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA before any other country. We need to think about AMERICA FIRST. No one can have allegiance to two countries, and if your first allegiance isn't to THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA then go be a citizen of the country you put first. GO U.S.A.
Wanted to add that I think Israel is an awesome country, and if a pol is a strong supporter that's great. But I just think that folks need to remember that their first priorities have to be at home where they have their citizenship and not abroad, specially as long as we have military units fighting overseas like we do. It's fine to support your allies, but first you support your OWN country.
A STRONG America is good for the entire World.
Once again europe, or eurabia, is going to hell in a handbasket. The uk is in appeasement mode once again.
The difference now, thankfully, is that the Israelis are not the unarmed Jews of WW2 nazi filth infested Europe.
I'm with ya Eddie! And when the revolution comes I want an Uzi and a Desert Eagle. I think Israel knows how to take care of itself and maybe we should be taking a few notes.
