I ventured down into the wetland behind my house and came upon a Canada Goose nest the other day. I've visited a couple of times since, but finally managed to take some pictures [click for large versions].

Here's the general area. That sort of land bridge is where the nest is. It's visible in the picture, but not in focus:

That's Mr. Goose watching me approach the nest from a distance:

Approaching Mrs. Goose sitting on her feathered nest:

[Much more in the extended entry.]

A little farther back:

Close up again. You can see the feathers and twigs she's sitting on. She was constantly futzing with the feathers and twigs and things. I wanted to get a picture of the eggs, but I didn't want to bug her too much:

Keeping an eye on me:

Mr. Goose is getting concerned. He's on his way:

Closer. Yesterday when I was there with my wife and girl, he literally came flying over straight at us screaming. It was freaky and kind of funny at the same time:

He walks up his water access ramp squawking at me:

Giving me the tongue:

He's not so angry that he can't pause to graze some of the cracked corn I've thrown down (Mrs. Goose is visible in the background):

Pausing to give me the tongue. BTW, he's making a sound like a very loud hissing snake when he does this. I can see why it would scare off a lot of animals. Fortunately, I'm a philosophical animal so I can master my fear. I ain't afraid a no goose!

He walks back toward his wife (or SO. Can we know they are legally married?). You see how I handled that guy baby? :

One last hiss:
