Here's an object lesson in how dysfunctional Arab leaders and societies use the Palestinian/Israeli conflict as a tool to further their own ends. Free societies would have an interest in resolving the conflict. Fear societies have an interest in keeping it going.
JPost: Assad tells Hamas, Jihad to increase attacks
Assad met with Hamas and Islamic Jihad commanders two weeks ago and told them that since the international community was hounding him, he wanted attention to be more focused on the Palestinian plight, according to the report obtained by Army Radio.
Assad's statement to Hamas and Islamic Jihad was reportedly the reason for the emergency meeting between Assad and Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak earlier this week.
In the meeting Mubarak allegedly told Assad not to interfere in the Palestinian conflict, Israel Radio reported.
Well, well, it looks like Islamic Jihad and Hamas are running out of options in the Middle East. They can either fight, and Israel retake the Gaza strip, or stop fighting and look lose face in front of their people.
With Israel going after everybody, it might not be long before Abbas is forced to act.
What's Abbas going to do?
Sure he has the manpower to do something but I don't know if he really can do anything.
He's a weak 'elected' dictator with rival gangs all looking to take his seat.
And I'm sure Mubarrek was really against Syria meddling in the conflict... lol.... I'm sure he was aghast.
Egyptian Sandmonkey noted the other day how Mubarrek recently met with Assad and then told the International community to leave him alone regarding Lebanon... reason being - Mubarrek already had his US check for this year in hand.
John Batchelor last night was talking with John Loftus about what Egypt (Mubarrek) needed from Syria in their recent meetings too... forget what it was?
