His comments section sucks and comment submissions don't work for some reason.
So I emailed my comment (below) to him.
Good piece but you're it seems to me trying to hype the "bash the Jew" part of the angle to add extra mustard to the piece.
Was he bashed anywhere in France for being Jewish or described as a "Jewish Philosopher"? I think he was just bashed by the left for stating painful truths they don't and can't deal with. The fact that he is Jewish seems to be incidental to the backlash. If he wasn't Jewish the same backlash from the left and Islamic groups would have likely occured. As you described the left has become a fascist junta that 'takes down' anyone especially its own who diverts and takes on truths they don't want to.
If I'm wrong about this and have read some French accounts that detail differently please email them and comment here.
Thanks.
Mike
Regarding the "Europe the Whore" rant a data point from Germany:
After the London Underground massacres an outraged german
proposed to finance a memorial for the victims in London
and for Theo van Gogh, by using the profits from the sale
of toilet paper on which the words "KORAN, DER HEILGE QUR-ÄN"
(=the Holy Q'u'r'an) are printed. In his press release and
some messages to internet forums he also called the coran
a "Kochbuch für Terroristen" (=cookbook for terrorists).
Result:
He's under criminal prosecution under one of Germany's ant-hate laws
(originaly enacted to prosecute neo-nazis). The criminal complaint
makes explictit reference to a diplomatic note issued by Iran where
Iran demands the german state put an immediate end to insults to the
coran.
For some perspective, here are some utterances by german politicians
that have not been prosecuted:
"Israel is waging an unrestrained war of annihilation against the Palestinians."
Israel using "Nazi-Methods" against the Palestinians.
George W. Bush is using methods similar to "Adolf Nazi".
These politicians were at the time they made these statements members of the
Christian Democrats, the Greens and the Social Democrats. They were criticized,
and paid a political price (to a little extent), but to my knowledge none of
them faced criminial prosecution.
What the toilet paper man did may or may not be of poor taste, but it is an absolutely
legitimate expression of outrage over an atrocity.
Plus, desecration of religious symbols has been a technique of mainstream modern art for a long time
(e.g. "Piss Christ"). That a German prosecutor should act at the behest and as the enforcer
of Iran, a country that wants to complete the holocaust, is a disgusting specatacle to me as a German citizen!
