This is a day late, of course, but I just surfed by this post and thought it worth linking at a blog slightly off the beaten track 'round here: MLK: The Greatest American

...I wish to express my gratitude, as a native of the American South, for being able to grow up without ever having seen separate bathrooms or water fountains, segregated schools, or signs refusing service to people of color. For me, these are only black and white photographs of a bygone era that seem hard to believe. For that, I am truly and forever grateful.

May we long remember and honor the memory of Martin Luther King, Jr., for whatever his flaws, he more than anyone else asked America to live up to her own promises. Happy Birthday, Reverend.
