I neglected to blog about Project Runway last week, but here are a few impressions from last night's episode.

All is right in the world. Although on a pure talent basis, I would have liked to have seen Kara gone, on the basis of just this episode's performance, the right person was in fact eliminated, and Kara may still be eliminated next week, leaving an exciting final four.

The episode started with a disappointing but unavoidable twist. It went like this... Since Since Zulema won episode 7, she was given the choice of staying with her own model, or switching to the model of the contestant who had been eliminated, or she could have her pick of all of the models. Whichever model is not chosen is out of the competition. This matters to the model because if the designer they're paired with wins the competition, they also get a spread in Elle Magazine.

So far, each of the contestants has remained loyal to their model. This is not only a nice thing to do, but it matters in design because each one has been getting to know their model's measurements and manner, so it has a practical effect on the competition as well. Zulema, however, pulled what can only be described as a stunt and had three of the models do a walk-off compeition, resulting in her stealing Nick's model, who happened to be the best in the competition, Tarah. This had Nick, and Zulema's former model, understandably pissed, and Zulema looking like the new villain of the show, taking Santino's place in that department. (Contrary to the way he was portrayed early in the show, Santino is coming off as a pretty cool, and chastened, guy now.) What a biznatch.

Anyway, justice was served and Zulema LOST that competition. So her machinations gained her nothing, and she was eliminated.

The trouble is that that meant that the number 1 model, Tarah, was also eliminated, since the winner, Daniel V., stayed with his model, Rebecca, for which no one could blame him. Nick shed a tear. I don't blame him. OK, I blame him a little, but I understand. Bummer for Nick.

Anyway, this week was an unusual challenge. The contestants had to design a dress made out of $100 worth of garden supplies and flowers from which they would need to assemble a dress.

Further, there was another twist in that the winner this week would be immune from elimination next week, and one away from the final three. That means it's imperitive that a weak person NOT win in a fluke -- something that could happen with such an unusual challenge. So the worst thing that could happen would be that weak-link Kara would win and be safe for an undeserved week, and when it came down toward the end, it was looking like it could happen, since the judges clearly liked her creation. Fortunately, she stayed in, but was not the winner. That honor went once again to the guy who's becoming the power-house, Daniel V., and he deserves the immunity. The likable but probably not likely overall winner, Andrae, lost, which was OK. His was the weakest creation indeed, and he went out well without any whining. All the creations are here, judge for yourself. I definitely thought the judges were too hard on Nick's dress, which I thought was rather well done.

Soooo...there's no one left to hate on the show. Kara should lose next week which would lead to a very exciting final episode to determine the final three to go to fashion week. That would be ideal.

Oh yeah, this was also a "very special episode" of Runway, with the first discussion I remember seeing of the designers' sexuality. They don't usually talk about too much personal stuff, but it was a good touch.

I can't believe that you watch that dreck.

You should try it. My wife was watching it last season and I couldn't have been less interested. Then I sat down and tried it and got hooked.

Never! I will NOT go over to the dark side!

It's more of a hot pink side, but it's your loss!
