UCC Truths notes this from the Canadian Jewish Congress: CJC encouraged by United Church of Canada’s proposal on Israeli-Palestinian peace, and this from the Toronto Star: Right move by church, and finally this, from the Wiesenthal Center: Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Center for Holocaust Studies Encouraged By United Church of Canada Position

News that the United Church of Canada (UCC) has rejected a one-sided resolution which focused primarily on faulting Israel and divestment as a tool, has been welcomed by Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Center for Holocaust Studies "as a hopeful turning point" by Canadian churches, unions and NGOs.

Said Leo Adler, Director of National Affairs, Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Center for Holocaust Studies, "The fact that investment decisions will now be tied to Israel's right to be a Jewish State is promising; it means that the UCC has recognized the evil that Israel has been struggling against.

"Now we need to help the UCC understand that a peaceful resolution of the Israeli-Palestinian border issue depends on the cessation of terrorism and the replacement of the Palestinian culture of hate and death with a climate of acceptance of Israel. That is where the Church's investments can best be utilized," he added.

More links and commentary at UCC Truths. It's not perfect, but still a far, far cry from where it could be. Good to see it coming out of Canada.
