Note signs on lower-right. Best...slogan...ever.
Down the Homestretch, the House Wanders Off Course
...what did House leaders decide to make the centerpiece of the week? H.R. 503: the American Horse Slaughter Prevention Act...
...The debate -- lasting nearly four hours while horse lover Bo Derek watched from the gallery -- quickly degenerated into dueling expressions of equestrian love...
...Majority Leader John Boehner (R-Ohio), meeting privately with colleagues in the morning, referred to the legislation as "the horse [expletive] bill," according to someone present at the meeting...
Not such great news for the slaughterhouse employees. All via Harry's Place who notes:
The slogan nicely combines the American pastimes of horse-loving and French-bashing. It conjures up amusing images of snooty Parisian horsemeat connoisseurs shouting "Sacre Bleu!" as they learn their favorite delicacy has been removed from the menu.
Are all American's going to become vegetarians? If you stop the slaughter of horses, then killing or slaughtering of all animals need to be stopped. People talk about the slaying of a horse is inhumane--what about the other animals? To the deer hunters--how many times have you shot a deer and the first shot killed it? To the fisherman, how many times has your fish swallowed the hook and you yanked it out? How many people enjoy wearing snake skin boots, alligator, bullhide, eel skin, etc? Where are we going to get our leather from? The point is there is nothing inhumane about the way a horse is slaughtered. People have got the wrong idea and see wrong pictures of a slaughter house. American people are ignorant because they cannot see that the U.S. government is taking away our rights day by day, not just on this issue. For example, the smoking issue--it is going to get to where you can't even smoke in your own home. Back to the main topic---if you stop the slaughter of horses, where are the horses going to stay, who is going to feed them, etc? It takes 6 acres per horse to properly take care of them. If you don't take care of the ignorant and stupid horses and you over populate your land with them, then you will have people turn those in who don't feed them properly, according to them. Do you want to see a child or anyone hurt on a stupid horse, get rid of it. People need to realize that the slaughter of horses is not going to be stopped, they will be shipped to Canada and Mexico. There goes our money. It should be up to the horse owner what they want to do with their animals. When the horses overpopulate the land, will they start putting them down as they do in a animal shelter when people don't adopt them and they are full. Do you hear these people complain about dogs being put to sleep because people don't want them and the shelters are full. American's wake up!
I think there are more things the the government needs to be concerned with other than the shutting of horse slaughtering. It should be up to a horse owner what to do with his or her horse. The government needs to concern theirself with the Mexican border, welfare, social security, etc. Money is being taken from us and give to Mexico and Canada, where these horses are being shipped. Take away the slaughtering of horses and take away all the meat in the US and everyone become vegetarians. When you get down to it, killing of all animals is wrong, but we enjoy putting it on the table.
To Beverly first off I hate to be called ignorant, and how would you know whether a horse slaughter plant is inhumane? Horses are considered just like dogs and cats here in America. Do you eat your dog or cat? We do not eat horse meat in the U.S. and for your information most of these horses that are being shipped to slaughter are not stupid, nor are they old and crippled. The plants are owned by foreiners that do not pay taxes and are powered by illegals. So we as Americans are not gaining anything finacially from this. I have lived on a ranch and had horses all my life and you do not have to have 6 acres per horse if you are not ignorate and know how to properly care for the animal. You are right about the dog population as to all the breeders need to be stopped for the overpopulation of them. Horses are not killed humanly and if you have ever seen how they do it you would know that! They are not taken to the plant humanely, and I believe you need to get more info on what you are talking about before you spout off. I would much rather see an animal euthanized by a shot that hit in the head and body several times by some Stupid idiot that gets off on hurting and torturing animals. Horses are part of this countries heritage, they helped make this country I dont know where you are from but maybe you should go back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11
