..."Nancy Pelosi wants total party discipline," a source in the Democratic Party leadership said. "If you played ball with the Republicans during this session, then you're not going to be given an important chair in the next session."...
They're making nice-nice with their more public pronouncements right now; it'll be interesting to see what actually occurs. I'm not optimistic or hopeful in the least, though would be happy to be proven wrong.
It may well be that they will overplay their hand and screw things up quite badly, and they will have no excuse and no one to blame since they'll be in control of both houses. If things go that way, it's going to be a real test of the influence of the internet to point out the problems and where the fault lies, since you can count on the MSM to excuse just about anything away. And the Republicans better come up with a good candidate for '08...
I'd be surprised if they don't overplay their hand. It's a too facile formulation, but a leopard doesn't change it's spots. And when they're suggesting Dingels, Conyers and Hastings will be chairing committees ...
Question is, will comedy or tragedy be the dominating theme and outcome of this Congress, will it echo Monty Python, or will it begin to echo the '73/75 Congresses, followed by Carter in '76? It will take a circuitous route as political machinations often do, but I fear the latter is an all too real possibility.
Formidable challenges lie ahead.
