Some interesting stuff on MLK:

...Referring to the stake U.S. oil companies have in the Middle East, Dr. King went on to note that “some Arab feudal rulers are no less concerned for oil wealth and neglect the plight of their own peoples. The solution will have to be found in statesmanship by Israel and progressive Arab forces who in concert with the great powers recognize fair and peaceful solutions are the concern of all humanity and must be found.”

Were Dr. King’s comments to Held intended only to soothe a miffed supporter? Hardly. In a March 25, 1968 speech to the Rabbinical Assembly, Dr. King said: “peace for Israel means security, and we must stand with all our might to protect its right to exist, its territorial integrity. I see Israel as one of the great outposts of democracy in the world, and a marvelous example of what can be done, how desert land can be transformed into an oasis of brotherhood and democracy. Peace for Israel means security and that security must be a reality.” Less than two weeks later, on April 4, Dr. King was murdered while organizing support for striking sanitation workers in Memphis, Tennessee...

The rest is here. [h/t: Susan A.]

Of course, some people see it differently, Ron Francis's friends have already sent out a message to protest the appearance of Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick at Temple Israel in Brookline tonight:

A call to action from Boston Anti-Zionist Action Demonstration for Palestine and African freedom

Stand out for Human Rights in Palestine and Massachusetts and against Deval Patrick, Zionism and the police state

Tomorrow Friday January 12, Deval Patrick will be speaking at the "MLK Shabbat" at Temple Israel at 477 Longwood Ave (corner of Longwood Ave & the Riverway, near Longwood Green Line T Stop). Temple Israel is an institution that has long and ardently opposed civil rights and human rights in Palestine. Temple Israel supports the Zionist genocidal project against the Arab people of Palestine and other countries in the Middle East, and specifically supported the Zionist attacks against the people of Lebanon and the Gaza Strip this year. It is obscene for this institution to have an event ostensibly honoring Martin Luther King Jr., a man who was murdered and martyred for his work for civil rights and against war...

It gets even better.

If ignorance is bliss, Francis and his friends must be a pretty ecstatic bunch.

All right, I can understand why they might put scare quotes around the word "Israel," but why around "Jews?" If Israeli Jews don't really exist, then who's doing all that genocide and oppression and stuff?

Disturbingly enough, one aspect of it is that a lot of these people have a racial view of Jewishness, and, as we all know (cough), those ashkenazim who call themselves Jews today are actually descended from the Khazars, not Middle Easterners of biblical vintage. (I'm not kidding.) Therefore, they are "Jews."

david rolde supports islamofascism which believes that the Middle East must only be all Arab all Muslim.

Meanwhile david rolde and company hypocritcally continue their occupation of North America, occupying Native American land.

I guess David Rolde isn't satisfied with the 2 percent of the vote that Grace Ross received in the last election, he's trying to lower it next time to .70 percent in the next election...

Great! All we need is another pro-Israeli voice venting his views, stirring up debate whether he is conservative or liberal. ;)

Good to see Dr. King, Jr. was for realistic peace. I wonder if he would be able to convince not only his fellow democrats, but this current government of the same thing?
