Palestinian FM: 'Israel should move to Canada'

"One large Islamic nation should be established in the Middle East, and where will Israel go? It should go to Canada. There is much open territory there in which a Jewish state should be established," said the Palestinian Foreign Minster Mahmoud A-Zahar in a recent interview with Canada's Globe and Mail.

The interview was published just days before the visit of Canadian Foreign Minister Peter Mackay to Israel and the Palestinian Authority, in which Mackay refused to meet with Hamas leaders or with A-Zahar.

A-Zahar warned in the interview that Canada was endangering itself. In his words, Canada is liable to turn into an enemy of the Palestinian nation and the Islamic Movement as a result of its insistence on shunning Hamas and supporting Israel.

"What is Israel giving you? Nothing," he said in the interview.

"Is it that you want to be the tail of the American dog—this is your business—or do you want to be a national leader?"

The Palestinian minister then addressed his Canadian counterpart and asked, "Why do you refuse to meet with us? We are not man-eaters."

He then added that Hamas-members are not terrorists, but rather, freedom fighters, saying:"There is no difference between us and the French resistance to Nazi occupation during the second world war."

Not man-eaters? Just child-killers...and human blood drinkers.

What is Israel giving you? Here's an excellent video. Compare and contrast to the Hamas contribution to humanity.

Another brilliant idea from the invented nation of Palestine (Go straight past Brigadoon and take a left just before Never-never land) - and yet another proof that even the Palestinians view the prospect of a palestinian state with horror and avoidance.

One large Islamic state would be a great idea from one standpoint, though. Then Ahmadinejad, the Saudis, Assad, Kaddaffi and all the other blood-soaked despots could spend their time trying to assasinate each other while encouraging the Sunnis, Shia, Kurds and other assorted Islamic peoples to murder each other in the name of their own parochial dogmas about who is a "real" muslim

A few years ago I responded to a libertarian's comment on some blog about giving a chunk of Utah or some state for the Israelis to live in and thus solve the ME "problem" by asking him if he would be able transfer the spirit of the people as well.

The land is one of the most important factors infusing the Israeli mind with the challenge to succeed and the hope of excelling against all odds.

I doubt that we would be witnessing the vibrant community today had they been "dumped" in some "G-d forsaken" place.

Just came across a post on The Belmont Club

In which Wretchard notes:
"[Note: Commenters have noted and it has proved true that Israel actually receives more per capita than Palestine in foreign aid, the figure being $420 versus $300 per capita.

I'm not registered to comment there but I would like to know which investment he considers the better one for all of "US"? :-)
The Israelis have given back to the world, in exchange for their existence, very much more in terms of technological progress.
It would be interesting to see a comparison in monetary terms of all the discoveries and inventions over the past 30 years.

I'd like to know the nature of the aid. I'd be willing to bet that a lot of the aid to Israel is the stuff that goes towards arms purchases from American companies.

I wonder how the Aoboriginal people in Canada would feel about this comment seeing as how many of the residential school survivors are still waiting for an apology from the Canadian government. What bothers me even more as a Canadian is seeing pictures of Palestinian "protesters" likening themselves to the Aboriginals in Canada and the United States.

Just as a side note...Canada has awarded an official apology and $10.5 Million to Maher Arar: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maher_Arar

I would also like to thank you for the excellent video on Israel's contribution to the world at large. It is quite a change to see something positive about Israel. Quite amazing how so much can come out of such a tiny country that is less then 60 years old.

Just as a side note on the Arar case, it has fueled a lot of fires within the Aboriginal and most likley Jewish communities in Canada as well as some Jewish communities around the world.

While i am not denying that what happened to Arar was unjust and unfair the fact that his compensation has been put before those of people who have systemically and systematically been abused by governments over centuries is what bothers me.

If my memory serves me the last comment to Belmont Club post has links to how Israel spends the "aid".
