Report: Saudi prince eyes $8B Disneyland

MANAMA, Bahrain (Reuters) -- Saudi billionaire Prince Alwaleed bin Talal is in talks with investors to build an $8 billion Disneyland theme park in Bahrain, at the heart of the world's biggest oil exporting region, a newspaper reported Tuesday.

The project would be based on Walt Disney Co.'s (Charts) theme parks and could be called "Disney Bahrain," Bahrain's al-Waqt newspaper said, citing an unnamed source.

The report did not make clear whether the U.S. company was directly involved in talks to build the first Disney theme park in the Gulf, where incomes have surged after a tripling of oil prices in the five years to last July.

Alwaleed, the world's eighth-richest man, is talking to investors including Kuwait Finance House, the Gulf's second-largest Islamic bank by market value, and Bahraini institutions, the newspaper said.

Alwaleed indirectly owns 10 percent of Disneyland Paris operator Euro Disney, and his Rotana Audio Visual Co. signed a deal in November to distribute Walt Disney products across the Middle East and North Africa...

..."The founding committee has undertaken a study... and has found the region is in great need of a project for family entertainment," the paper said, citing the source...

What? The delights of Hamas (see below) and Hizballah aren't enough?

Not to be superficially sentimental, but imagine a world where the Disney picture becomes more and more prominent and the cultishly cruel and nihilistic Hamas/Hezbollah photo begins to recede more and more. That will occur when the words of Amir Taheri are reckoned with, are given their full measure and due (for a summary, simply go to the final two or three paragraphs).

I've been shamelessly hawking Taheri's piece since seeing the link at the aptly named All Things Beautiful (plus, she's gorgeous), but it's a terrific condensation of some of the most archimedean pivot points and fundamentals in the war against the salafists/jihadists.

Imagination, rightly conceived, is basic.

They'll also insist that Daisy Duck and Tinker Bell wear burqas.

what's ur problem, no one is forced to wear burqas ok! and we dont go to chool on a camel, and btw burqas is a religious thing which is volunteerable, so show some respect

Is wearing a burqa or whatever you call the black full body covering sack "volunteerable" in iran?

Is wearing the burqa "volunteerable" in saudi arabia?

You know it's "volunteerable" under penalty of the religious police, defenders of the faith.

The GREAT Rudy Guliani told Alweed what to do with his $10 million dollars - to shove it.
