This is just a quick link to follow -- an "aside." These are links to interesting things that, for one reason or another, I didn't place into a full posting. Click the link to visit the full article. Go to the blog index for a regular listing of posts.

Norway: Extreme Expressions of Anti-Israeli Attitudes by Manfred Gerstenfeld - '...Looking back, taking into account the Holocaust, there has been a relatively short interval of positive attitudes toward both Jews and Israel in Norway. These attitudes have diminished but still exist. At the same time, significant anti-Semitism manifests itself. Anti-Israelism, that is, discrimination against the Jewish collectivity, has become its most important mutation.'

Gerstenfeld's book has more than enough going for it and it's well worth a read. Download it from my site if you want to, it's under book reviews: http://www.israelwhat.com.

Scandinavian critics of Israel point out that it's not antisemitic to criticize Israel "like any other country" but the point is Israel is criticized far above and beyond any other country. Just look at the riots in Malmö, Sweden right now, or the riots in Oslo, Norway on January 8th. You won't see Scandinavians get that worked up over any other country in the world.

A bit repetitious for some, two of those were recently featured at Augean Stables and the third made the rounds a bit in January, but they are dramatic representations nonetheless, the first two visually so, the third one equally illuminating though as well.
