Lee Smith: The Many Follies of Samantha Power - 'Former Obama adviser Samantha Power’s blunders are a lesson in what happens when the book-writing, cocktail party crowd take on real-life politics, writes Lee Smith...'

Obama's selection of Samantha Power is telling of a certain superficiality, one where wishful thinking trumps gravity and depth. She comes across as affected, as a poseur; one who has a grasp of an academic vernacular and abstract intelligence, but little beyond that. Even cynicism is typically better than that type of superficiality, at least cynicism tends to be motivated out of at least some depth and experience, even if it also generalizes upon a too limited base of experience.
