This is just a quick link to follow -- an "aside." These are links to interesting things that, for one reason or another, I didn't place into a full posting. Click the link to visit the full article. Go to the blog index for a regular listing of posts.
John Voight: My concerns for America - '...This is a perilous time, and more than ever, the world needs a united and strong America. If, God forbid, we live to see Mr. Obama president, we will live through a socialist era that America has not seen before, and our country will be weakened in every way.'
You're the best!!!
I strongly agree with mr. Voight's comments. Obama may say he is for change but what change? a change that may cost us our liberties and rights because of his extremist's views?
I have a hard time imagining our liberties and rights more restricted than they are now. Come on, Bush basically suspended our Habeus Corpus rights. It's all rehtoric and scare tactics. Is Obama going to make the economy worse? Increase gas prices? make the housing market tumble more? Further decrease the value of the dollar? It doesn't seem like we can be weakened a whole lot more than we already are.
#3 David:
Nonsense. Where does our Constitution confer rights on enemy combatants? How is it illegal to monitor international phone calls with foreign Jihadis?Even though it's non-state entities like Al Qaeda who launched a war against us (long before 9/11, but the terror of that awful day was our wake-up call), we've been following the Geneva Accords as regards prisoners of war -- despite the fact that those who started this war are not signatories and have treated those they've captured despicably. Remember Daniel Pearl? Nick Berg?
1. Yes, much worse. He's an radical Liberal. Tax-and-spend hardly begins to describe it.2. Yes, absolutely. In fact, he wants high prices to build demand for alternatives. He opposes the commonsense measures that would increase the supply of oil and increase refinery capacity. Not only does he oppose power plants based on fossil fuels, but he's also against nuclear plants.
Reasonable people think that when it comes to wind, solar, geothermal, oil, gas, clean coal and nuclear, we need all of the above. We all support the development of renewable energy. But our state's two liberal, Democrat Senators are doing everything they can to block Cape Wind because Ted Kennedy and his neighbors don't want their pristine view disturbed by windmills on the horizon, five miles out to sea. Their claim that their opposition is to save the local fishing industry is laughable.
The facts are that for the short and medium terms, our transportation will depend on oil. Maybe T. Boone Pickens is right and a lot of the fleet can be converted to run on natural gas. Hybrids will help, but their impact on demand for oil won't be dramatic. There are a lot of cars and trucks out there that will be on the road for a long time, and it's unlikely they'll be converted to hybrid engines. Hydrogen cars are long-way off. The idea of using corn-based ethanol was a disaster -- it increased food prices and carbon emissions. Forests were cleared to grow corn. Until there are some futher breakthroughs in battery technology, electric cars and plug-in hybrids are interesting but will be available only to niche markets. They might be great for commuting, but what longer trips? Consider how long it takes to fill up a tank with gasoline or natural gas versus how longto recharge an electric car's batteries. With natural gas as a fuel and also Hydrogen and electric cars, when they become practical on a large scale, there's a chicken-and-egg problem as we build up the infrastructure to support them. Would you buy a Hydrogen car if there were not Hydrogen filling stations?
3. Not sure any President can manipulate the housing market like that. Saying that the housing market is "tumbling" is a wicked overstatement. (Can you say scare tactic?) It's not like a stock-market crash or a dot-com bubble where investments suddenly become worthless. Are you really implying that falling house prices is President Bush's fault and not the crazy way prices were driven up in the last 25 years, enabled in part by rapacious practices by the banks and the whole sub-prime fiasco? The drop in prices is a market correction. Assuming he should do anything about the housing market, what do you think the Obamessiah can do about it.
4. Yes, without a doubt. (Essentially the same question as [1].) The Obamessiah and the Democrat Congress will print money like mad for all kinds of ill-considered programs that won't achieve their ends but will succeed in putting money into the pockets of bureaucrats, union leaders, lobbyists and other fat cats. Expect lots of inflation. Remember what interest rates were like under Carter?
God help us if the dhimmi Dummycrats get both ends of Pennsylvania Avenue.
Two other opponents of the windmills at sea are
- former CBS anchorman Walter Cronkite
- historian David McCullough
Opposition boiled down to four words: not in my backyard

Obamessiah...dhimmi Dummycrats..really?
Nap...it's hard to take your points seriously when they are surrounded by schtick.
Mr. Voight:
I understand you may have a hard time in Hollywood after writing this. Cheers to you for taking that chance.
I hope that everyone who reads your fine article goes out and rents every movie you have ever been involved in--I certainly intend to do so.
I knew you were special by the way you raised your daughter and seeing her commitment to giving back to the world.
Keep up the good work. There are so few of you in the entertainment world to speak up and tell the truth. The fact that you care is so important.
Thanks a million
I couldnt agree with Mr Voight more, i am incensed that a man named Jeffrey Wells who runs a site called Hollywood-Elsewhere.com, would say He wont give Vioght a movoe job because of Voight's beliefs. he said John Voight needs to keep his mouth shut. I just e-mailed Mr Wells and informed him that in case he doesn't relize it, in communist countries people are punished for their political beliefs, as well as other beliefs, or opinions. Therefore, Mr Wells is doing exactly what John Vioght is criticizing Obama of doing, ushering in socialsim, marxism, and stifling freedon of speech. Mr Wells is apparentlyy a movie producer, or whatever he is. This man's site can be downloaded by typing in Hollywood-Elsewhere.com. All those who agree with Mr Voight and who are sick of our country leaning more toward a marist society by the day should e-mail Mr Wells and tell him what a jerk he is for saying John Voight needs to shut his mouth with his opinion. How dare this man say John Voight deserves to be blacklisted in Hollywood because of his political views. I just left the Democratic party after Hillary Clinton lost. I have sen a black panther member on Glenn Becks Cnn show who recently admitteed that Obam;as chur he 'quit' (conveniently to get elected) is of marxist principles. that black panther member has been a member of that church for years, And if you study the backgound of the Trinity Church of Christ, you find they believe in marxism. Barack Obama is the most dangerous man to ever run for President of the United States. If he wins the Presidency, this country is ruined.
God bless John Voight, John MCcain,
and Barack Obama. Its just that the latter is the smarter of the candidates and will be able to see his grandchildren.
I just posted. i want to apologize for some of my typo errors. Unfortunately after i posted, I realized there was no way to edit my letter and correct misspellings. Briefly, Mr Voight has every right to his opinion. That is what our country is great for, freedom of speech. It is appalling that Wells says that Vioght deserves no jobs in Hollywood due to his beliefs.
Thank you, Jon Voight, for your comments. I am so glad to find out that everyone is Hollywood is not a flaming, mindless liberal! I will be seeing EVERYONE of your movies from now on!!!
Dems want to tax the rich (of which I am NOT). Why don't they realize they can't tax them to death and then expect them to turn around and invest in alternative energy exploration. Why can't Libs act honestly? Why do they placate the American people? Good going Nancy>>>Deceptive practices accomplish nothing but bad karma for us all. For what goes around...
God please help those who live for righteous things. God Bless John Voight. God teach a lesson to those who refuse to recognize free speech as a great part of this great country. The only one of it's kind and a miracle in itself. Thank you Sweet Jesus for our freedoms and may good succeed over evil. Protect our troops and their families.
Thank you, Barack Obama, for seeing change and not another 4-8 years under unruly Republican rule. They have ruined us economically and I really don't have to go into it. Y'all know how empty your wallets are.
I respect Mr Voight, but certainly not his comments. I could care less if he stays in Hollywood or not. God forbid if we have McCain in office with his temper. If McCain is seriously going to clean up the mess Bush and Co. made, then i'll believe it when I see it. So far, all I see is war and military spending all over again. Althought when I learned that Obama flip-flopped about that stupid offshore drilling crap, I was pretty pissed.
So not only are there Dummypublicans, but there are Dummycrats too..so there. May the best man win!
Nappy-headed Ho'
You are thinking very correctly. Now, lets see if America is as stupid as the media would like to think they are. RIGHT ON, Loved it and John Voight
good point when obama is 46 percent Arab, and only6.75 percent black what a better way for an insider Arab obama in the form of a lying "devout Christian" as he claims , he attended a racist black agenda church for 20 years how can we believe him he speaks with a forked tongue as rev writhg said he obama will say anything to get elected.
I agree with Jon Voight. These are perilous times.
Voting for Barack Hussein Obama would be like voting for someone whose middle name is Adolf during WW2.
Obamas associations may be great if one is a leftist, "progressive", socialist, adherent of "black liberation theology", but not if the voter isn't - and most voters are thankfully not any of the former.
Boy, are we in trouble. So many angry and judgemental people in the Republican Party, sort of like humans in general. If Barack wasn't black, you'd have a totally different view in some cases, correct? Admit it. McCain is white & rich and that's 50% the reason you'd vote for his sorry behind.
Rock on John! Wish the reps I voted for in '04 &'06 had the balls to call it as it is....and it MAY be if the Dhimmicrats win in Nov.
Eddie,
Like voting for somebody who's name was Adolf during WWII. That's a tough leap in logic and, in my opinion, warents a "bluster" alert.
Wow! You guys are harsh. So what about this Patriot Act developed since the Bush administration took office? Aren't you worried about your identity or even if your safe deposit boxes get checked and cleared out by the government without you knowing AND the bank tellers don't have to let you know? Eavesdropping? Printing money without the public knowing how much? Hmmm I think we're in for a fascist society if McCain becomes prez. Well, it already is somewhat, but it'll only get worse. Say what you want about Obama, but either way, you're only going to get burned. Sorry.
Mike,
You better taker a good look around an point that so called decerning finger at those that are truely responsible for empying your wallet. I agree that the Republicans (Rino types) have sorely fallen short of doing what is right for this country. But, they don't hold a candle to the irresponsibility and outright Socialist agenda of the democratic left. I see the current energy policies in 2 ways:
1. Economic suicide.
2. Global wealth redistribution.
I hope you can take your admiring eyes off of B.H.O. long enough to clear your vision and finally take a look at him and the left for what they really are. The fifth column in the United States bent on its destruction.
Scott,
I see what you're talking about, but it's hard to discern. Like I said yesterday, once I learned that B.O. (hmm funny initials!) flip-flopped about offshore drilling, then I thought, WOW how crazy is that? First you think someone is against something then suddenly he/she's for it at the drop of a hat. Sorry for sounding so harsh earlier. I, like so many others, are for change, and who knows where that'll come from, but we can hope for change and for fairness, clean skies, evenly distributed wealth, and so on. Pointing fingers is easy, and both sides do it (and have done it), so wouldn't it be nice to actually do some good for America and to gain back allies that we've lost? I'm all for that :)
Daoud and Mike will vote for Barack Hussein Obama, for old times sake, like when they voted for Stalin, Pol Pot, Fidel, Chairman Mao, Chairman Arabfat and Andy Dick.
Eddie,
My bad, it should have been a "shtick alert." Chaneling the bad Jay Sevrin bit and all.
DEAR JOHN;i HOPE THIS COUNTRY IS STILL ABLE TO PUT IN PRACTICE WHAT SO MANY HAVE FOUGHT AND DIED FOR .WHAT I AM RFERING TO IS FREEDOM OF SPEECH AND THE RIGHT TO BE ABLE TO EXPRESS YOUR POINT OF VIEW.IT SEEMS THAT IF YOU DO NOT HAVE A POLITICAL CORRECT OPINION OR VIEW YOUR LABELED AND BLACKBALLED "VIVA MOB MENTALITY" PEOPLE MAY NOT AGREE WITH YOU BUT IT IS THE DIVERSE OPINIONS AND IDEAS THAT HAVE MADE THIS COUNTRY GREAT.I HOPE MY GRANDCHILDREN WILL STILL HAVE THIS RIGHT AND THEY ARE NOT FORCED INTO A RIDGED CHANNEL OF THOUGHTS AND ACTIONS.AND DECISIONS MADE FOR THEM BY OTHERS.SIGNED PETTY OFFICER 2ND TREVETHAN KENT U.S.NAVY 1979-1984
John Voight is more concerned for this country than any acting role now or post an Obama presidency. I see John as an inciteful thinker, tempered by the flames of passion-seeking-truth, all ernest lessons learned from his youthful misdirection.
For me, I graduated HS in 71 praying never to be called to fight for the United States in Viet nam, as this war was sold to me as some demonic misguided. My fears were proved wrong and am now too old to battle for this country. Valor has returned to our souls, thanks only to our brave young troops and steadfast Commander in Chief.
Voight is a champion for today's truth. The youthful stupidity of what Obama continues to spew as his reality, such as proper inflating our tires will save us from needing to drill... is too fantastic, too idiotic to trust in a president.
Hollywood is full of actors who don't or won't think for themselves. They portray their America as unworthy, our war to end terrorism as shameful, and all who belive otherwise are the vermin.
We are the free. We the People are still the force of this nation. John points out here that an Obama presidency will work to change that. Obama's change will remove WE THE PEOPLE, replaced with ME THE MIGHTY, taking over any company or concern just to raid their $. Hugo Chavez would be so jealous, yet good friends.
The cover of July 21, 2008 issue of The New Yorker illustrates the impression of your comrade Obama.
That is why Obama will lose.
Who knew that Murdock owns The New Yorker too?
Oops.
Here is a link to the aforementioned New Yorker cover.

#25 David:
Little Davey, Davey, Davey.
It's "your bad" every time you post here. Do us all a favor and stop making that mistake.
Isn't this at least the second time in about as many days that you've insulted someone here by comparing them to Jay Severin (two letters E in his name)? I don't defend Jay Severin and his extreme views, his egotism or his arrogance, but that strutting, self-important peacock is more clever than you by a whole lot, and he has a loyal following.
Time for you to be severin' your connection to Solomonia.com.
no can do
I'm open to ideas, but I won't be compared to what's his face, Jay Severin? So please, leave him and the New Yorker out of it, thanks :)
Ok, so now what do we talk about? LOL
Lets talk about how sad you will be when Barack Hussein Obama is rejected by the electorate.
You will probably cry that the election was rigged.
Which country will you scuttle to?
You only hope. Let's talk about McCain for a minute, shall we?
Let's see..
His recent ad touting his "maverick" stance on reform made me shake my head and laugh, especially when the claim that "he will battle Big Oil". How stupid does he think we are? McCain's record when it comes to the oil industry is well known:
*In June, following his June 16 speech endorsing offshore drilling, McCain accepted a record campaign donation of $1.1M from Big Oil, exponentially greater than any previous month.
*McCain's tax plan proposes $3.8 billion in tax cuts for the top five oil companies.
*In 2007, McCain scored zero on the League of Conservation Voters scorecard, a mechanism the tracks environmental voting records in the U.S. Senate.
*Also in 2007, a vote to stop $13 billion in tax breaks for Big Oil and invest the money in new, clean-energy alternatives failed by one vote; McCain had the power to pass the bill, but he was the only senator who refused to cast a vote, single-handedly causing the bill to fail.
*In 2005, McCain voted twice against taxing oil company profits because he didn't want to pass the revenue on to us consumers as tax credits.
The list goes on. Is this a record of standing up to the oil industry? Not by anyone's definition. It's a record of sucking up to the oil industry and now lying about it. So which slimy politician do you want on Pennsylvania Avenue now? huh?
Mike,
It's VERY SIMPLE.
And this is why Obama will lose, as long as Republicans and honest people continue to expose Obama and his friends for what they are.
All your "facts" will not erase Obamas baggage of...
- Rev. Wright
- Louis Farraklan
- Obamas "trendy" middle name
- black liberation theology
- Jesse Jacksons hatred of Obama
- crooks like Rezko
- leftist/socialist/terrorists like Ayers
- the Chicago machine
- Obamas arrogant wife
- support by hijab wearing Islamists
- Obamas flip-flopping on Bring the Troops Home
(or maybe not right away)
- against off-shore drilling
This is another example of a choice between the lesser of two evils.
John McCain would not destroy the US as Barack Hussein Obama (as depicted by The New Yorker would.
Eddie,
The US is already destroyed somewhat..look around you. You can thank Bush & Co for most of it. Do you see McCain improving anything? Both candidates have baggage, and tons of it.
I'm a peacemaker, and I don't see either one bringing on world peace of any kind. I am, however, for cleaner energy, alternative energy practices (I drive a hybrid--so i'm trying to help out early), environmental protection (I certainly don't see McCain fighting for that!), and stopping this rediculous war that's draining our funds (and wallets), stoking our deficit and turning us into a third world country. We are already headed in that direction. They're printing money out the nose, and they're no longer required to report how much they print to the public anymore (sneaking you-know-what's). I'm no hippie, but I do care and I want to live to see improvement and fairness, not to mention justice! Bipartisanship would be nice. What do you think?
Oh, by the way, I don't consider ANY politician honest in any way. Bush is a star at being a liar. He gets 1st place for that one :)
Matt, speaking of liars, do you really believe that Barack Hussein Obama never heard of his pastor Wrights vile views on America and black liberation theology?
Obama is either lying, or he is too dumb to be President.
Plus Obama will have votes drained away by Ralph Nader.
Maybe Karl Rove is behind the Nader campaign.
Skip the hybrid and walk, ride a bike, use mass transit.
Thank you, John Voight, for your couragous words. Hopefully more in your hollywood circle will follow your lead rather than falling on the bandwagon of supporting Obama.
Mr. Voight--- I did not have time to read the blogs on this websight, just saw the reference to you on Fox News. I went immediately to the computer to address this , which I never do, just to say thank you. I appreciate your view--it takes extreme courage for you to express your views in Hollywood--and you daughter probably does not agree--so you most likely are taking a risk w/ your relationship based on past media information--(unreliable?-most likely) Anyway, please be assured this is not typical fan mail as I am smart enough to know you do not read it and probably this either---Our family does well and does not have to impress you--only writing to support you and are soooo happy to have some one in your position to support what most of the public feels! I know that most of your friends must be extremely critical and telling you your career is over. JUST KNOW THERE ARE PEOPLE OUT THERE THAT TOLTALLY BELIEVE IN WHAT YOU ARE SAYING! Thank you for expressing you views publically.
With the left coast's reputation for lunatic celebrities who think they can out think the rest of us with their money and name recognition it's wonderful to hear a distinguished member of the Hollywood types speak his piece in contravention to the lo0cal wisdom. You are swimming upstream I know but thank you. To have the threat of McCarthy style punishment as a result of your courage only proves the sickness prevelant in the world of OZ.
Obama is without character, wisdom, honor and credability. Senator McCain possess all the above in spades and God help us and the world if this socialist pernicious prevaricator and his race bateing wife make it to 1600 PA Ave. He has no reasonable answers to the significant issues faceing us. He can't think on his feet and can only seem erudite when reading what his handlers put up on the prompter.Acapella he's a joke. His uppity Ivey league rhetoric is wearing thin and is as hollow as his empty suit. His rise to where he is is a disgrace to our system.Presumptive he may be but arrogant is a better discriptor. Thanks again,John.

Don't come crying to me when things fall apart under McCain. Un-social as he is, all the poor and homeless will come knocking at your door asking for bread & water while he and his Repub buds spend more on wars and weapons, toasting at roasts and parties. Arrogance has long been a Republican way of thinking, and it leaves so many people out of the picture. I can't read the future, but God help us if we continue to go backwards. I don't care who you're talking about, but for several years now, we are paying for the government's fun & games. More so lately. Can you read into a crystal ball and see that it's going to be better? I don't see it UNLESS one of the candidates is PROACTIVE and will quit being a puppet for others' decisions. I won't go into Bush & Co, since this post is about Voight's remarks, but i'm thiking impeachment for the whole gang :)
Oh yes, and don't come crying to me if Obama fails too, since so many Hillary supporters went running to vote for McCain.
Good people have to work tirelessly to expose the hateful people Obama associates with.
Barack Hussein Obama as President would be a DISASTER for the US.
Obama would be GOOD for the US if your goal is the DESTROY the US, as it is for leftists, socialists, national socialists, fascists, islamists, "progressives".
Eddie,
I can see that you might think an Obama presidency would be bad for the US, but destoying the US. After all Bush has done, it seems like the US is pretty near indestructable.
Lumping in Nazi's (national socialists) with progressives seems like a stretch. Maybe a bit of an overtstatement.
And has anybody else noticed the Barak Obama's middle name is the EXACT same as Sadaam's last name. Must be a Muslim.
If you want to see what this country will be like after an Obama presidency, look at the UK after ten years of Tony B'Liar. This man really worries me.
Harold
Like I said, don't come crying to me if your president doesn;t do what you'd like.
Speaking of fascists, we already have a bunch of them in the White House now, one of them looks like a monkey. Can you guess who this guy is? lol
Daoud, look at the depiction of Barack Hussein Obama on the July 21 cover of The New Yorker.
It's Thomas Nast for the 21st century.
Could Obama be relentlessly cariactured as Bush is, as a monkey - in various reaction poses?
Bush as a monkey - OK.
Obama as a monkey - RACIST!
Bush with a watermelon - OK.
Obama with a watermelon - RACIST!
Bush as SHITler - OK.
Obama as an Islamist Manchurian Candidate - RACIST!
Or would caricatures of Obama have to be cleared by a leftist, socialist, "progressive" PC censor - a "Secretary of Propaganda"?
Thank God a person with publicity has spoken for the people who are not heard. With the democrats always yelling and crying...John Voight has spoken loud and clear for what MANY Americans know and feel. Thank You John for being our voice!!! Thank You! Now lets all pray that Obama is NOT elected.
Dear John,
I typically do not pay attention to what actors have to say about anything, especially when it comes to politics.
However, your thoughts expressed the exact sentiment that I have been feeling regarding Obama.
In my life, (61), I never actually worried about the candidates of the presidential election. I had my pros/cons for each candidate and sometimes preferred, with great intensity, one over the other. However, NEVER did I have fear about the repercussions of the "other" candidate winning.
I FEAR OBAMA.
I had this fear from very early during the primary process. I would ask myself and others, "who is this man...where did he come from...what does he stand for....and how did he manage to get so much attention/support so quickly"?
Maybe an overeaction, the idea of "Manchurian Candidate" entered my consciousness.
Again, I felt I was probably overeacting.
However, as time went on, I began to instinctually recognize that he is an enemy of this great country. His lack of respect for this country shows in his speeches and demeanor. His associations with people who are America haters is quite evident. His love affair with the "world opinion" as compared to the American opinion is quite evident.
His wife's "hatred" for this country is evident, never being proud of American until now!?
His simple positions such as not celebrating Christmas seems to smack strong about his true religious beliefs.
Bottom line John, I believe you hit it on the head. He was trained to hate this country or at least was trained to do what he can to change this country to make us weaker.
I am scared about the prospects of him being elected to office.
There is nothing right about him.
It has nothing to do with his color, which he would like to make everyone believe.
It has to do with his character; the way he presents himself; he is haughty, over opinionated;obnoxious;street hustler, but much smoother.
I am glad you wrote what you wrote.
Maybe, enough people will finally understand that he is not good for this country.
Thanks for your courage,
Richard, S.
I'm going to pray that someone will bring fresh new ideas and justice to all people, fairness, equal rights, care for the environment, alternative energy sources. Also, it would be nice to have someone who cares about the working class and veterans! I'm not one, but I live near 2 bases and hear so many stories of how our vets are not treated fairly and being short-changed or cut off from medical assistance. So sad. We could have more money for meaningful programs, but NOOOOOOO they have to build more crap in some other country, rebuild or restock the military AGAIN. No balance, just chaos, sort of. Where do you want your money going?
#53 Mike:
Kumbaya, my Lord, Kumbaya. -- A great song that gets a bad rap because of the foolishness and naïveté of the loony Left.Want to see some fresh, truly progressive ideas that actually represent what most Americans want and actually have a chance of achieving good results in education, healthcare and fair taxation? Check out The Platform of the American People at the American Solutions web site. The positions were arrived at after polling Democrats, Republicans and independents. There's a lot that reasonable people agree on, regardless of which way they lean politically. Read Newt Gingrich's companion book Real Change: From the World That Fails to the World That Works. (Moonbats and elites won't like it.)
There's a two-part video on YouTube of an interview with Newt about the book.
Yes, it's a damned shame. Gee, do you think governmental bureaucracies might have something to do with that? They're not rated on outcomes but on keeping costs down. Where do you think all the red tape that blocks access to care comes from? Once they get past the hurdles, the vets I know say VA hospitals provide excellent care.
Sticking your head in the sand about the real dangers we face from radical Islam or pretending that we don't have to fight back and take the initiative in the war they started is just plain foolish even if it's all the rage in the left-wing MSM, the professoriat and a lot of the chattering class.
Btw, nice try at changing the subject by playing to our sympathies for the downtrodden working class (Workers of the world, unite! You have nothing to lose but your chains!) and maltreated soldiers and veterans.
Why it's almost as if big unions and entrenched bureaucracies had nothing to do with the collapse of Detroit from one of the country's most prosperous cities to an economic basket case with a failed education system despite high per-student expenditure. Or what about the failure of government at all levels to take care of New Orleans. That's both before and after Hurricane Katrina. Before, they didn't want to invest in upkeep and strengthening the levee system, even though city and state officials knew it needed to be done. Afterward? For all money FEMA spent on trailers, half were never used. I forget how many millions FEMA spent on ice for New Orleanians, ice that FEMA just spent $3,000,000 to round up and melt because it was to expensive to store it in freezer warehouses all over the country.
Newt discusses the tragedis of Detroit and New Orleans in Real Change.
Give me one thing the righteous right has done good for the past 8 years, and i'll see if it's legit.
Prevented another islamofascist attack on the US.
mike, you should grovel at the feet of GWB.
BTW, what sort of clever signs are you drawing with your Crayoloas to protest Russian invasion of a foreign country?
How about demanding that the Russians first use "diplomacy"?
Try again..
GWB is not worthy of the sort. He needs to be institutionalized.
With my Crayolas, i'm drawing a greener planet, bluer skies and fresher water, unlike you guys drawing war planes, tanks and guns. We're trained to be afraid of everyone/everything else. For that, GWB & the GOP have done a good job. Neither right or left is perfect, but both have this arrogance and ignorance that stinks and it's really sad that we have any of this in America. It makes us look really assinine to the world. So here we go, trying to compete to be the best Third World Country that ever existed! :)
see what I mean when I commented on the democrats crying and whining? Thanks for keeping me honest! Again...thank you Jon Voight and lets just pray for our country to be protected as it has been for the past years under GWB!!!
#55 Mike:
As if we trusted your judgement.First you give me one thing that loony-left, bleeding-heart, tax-and-spend liberals have ever done right. LBJ's War on Poverty and programs to build a New Society were a smashing success, right? Old hat? OK, I can easily tell you a number of things they've done wrong recently. For starters, they've stood in way of real progress:
- They blocked meaningful, progressive reform of the Ponzi scheme we call Social Security. It will go bust soon enough, quite possibly in my lifetime.
- They blocked the confirmation of the most intelligent, savvy and capable Ambassador to the UN since Daniel Patrick Moynihan. DPM was eloquent in denouncing the heinous Zionism is racism resolution, but John Bolton was effective in getting it revoked despite the best efforts of the OIC (Organization of the Islamic Conference), the Euroweanies and other assorted antisemites.
- So far, our two liberal Senators have succeeded in blocking the Cape Wind green energy project. (All of their bloviating hot air doesn't provide enough wind as a substitute source of infinitely renewable energy.) It's vitally important, according to the esteemed and honorable Senators, that we protect the
Your move, chump. Make it a good one. Better yet, why don't you call it quits. You don't want to make Eddie mad. Trust me. Right now, it sounds like he's getting ready to slap you upside your foolish head.pristine view from the Kennedy compound in Hyannis(Oops. My bad.) Make that the local fishing industry. Yeah, that's the ticket. (Yeah, right. Wanna buy a bridge? I can get you a really good deal if you act now.)Nap,
You don't answer Mike's question then you go on your own diatribe. And whay are you so eager to have people who don't agree with you stop posting?
Heck, I'll answer Mike's question. No Child Left Behind, while imperfect, has started the much needed conversation about national education standards.
I don't think anybody should be groveling at the feet of GWB. Even my far right relatives think he has been a disaster.
GREAT JOB JON VOIGHT! WE LOVE YOU! WISH WE HAD MORE OF THE SAME WILLING TO SPEAK OUT AGAINST OBAMA IN HOLLYWOOD!
Thank you, David.
I'm glad Karen thinks GWB is such an angel.
Eddie doesn't scare me.
And Nap, I guess you can't think of anything good to say about the right, since you wanted me to go first with the left. See what's going on around you right now? Do you call that progress? I don't. I can't. I call it a huge mess, thanks to your dictator GWB and all his buddies.
I was a flaming liberal in the sixties and that thing that swings on old clocks really does travel to the other side, equally.
America will always rebound regardless of what our "leaders" do to it.
Mr. Voight
I want to take a moment to reflect upon your political views and in so doing I want you to realize the effect that your political views have on the common people of this country (like myself). I just watched your interview on the Glen Beck program. I have to say that a feeling of pride came over me while watching. Pride in my country, my countrymen and my U.S. government is "May I in a very English understatement, say is waning just a bit". I cannot express the feeling of pride that I felt when you spoke common sense, rationality and above all the truth about our current political situation (Obama forPresident). Why I felt so much pride? You are on the inside, you are a celebrity, you are what Americans for generations have looked upon for guidance, morality and trust. With so much garbage being spewed from Hollywood you may just be the Jimmy Stewart of our time. No, your acting style is nothing like Jimmy Stewart and I'm glad of that. Mr. Stewart appealed to his audience in his time and to a great degree still appeals to a huge audience today. What you have in common is that you and Mr. Stewart are Hollywood icons, people look up to you, you are in a sence leaders of so many. Thank God, from the chaos, a voice of sanity breaches the void, and is heard.
I have a challenge to you Mr. Voight. My voice is lost among the crowd as well as most of the true patriots of our country. Cry out, vote, writing letters of protest are all in vain. These attempts for a re-establishment of this countries laws and constitution have been circumvented by a bias media, a bias entertainment industry and a corrupt and misguided government made up of self gratifying, greedy and morally degenerate members. America needs some Heroes, we had them in WWII, They were, James Stewart, Alec Guinness, James Doohan, Donald Pleasance, David Niven, Clark Gable, Charlton Heston, Ernest Borgnine, Charles Durning, Charles Bronson, George C Scott, Eddie Albert, Brian Kieth, Lee Marvin, John Russell, Robert Ryan, Audie Murphy, Jack Palance and my sincerest apologies to those I may have left out. Mr. Voight, You are in good company. All those brave actors listed, served their country with pride, but most of all they were moral leaders. America followed them and we beat the most serious threat our nation has ever endured, until now. Mr. Voight, you have already stepped up to the plate, now it's time to swing and swing hard. America needs you, and all those in your profession to stand tall, rise up and rally this country to do the right thing. Remember, you are in good company, you won't have to braze any new trails, you will have to clear away old growth and reopen what we thought were forgotten trials. America will not make it if you don't become the leaders that America made you. Actors in The United States are not just actors, they are, for better or worse, our moral compass (Hell, I learned Integrity, Fortitude, Self Respect and Self Reliance from James T. Kirk). Time you guys/gals stand up and put up a fight and above all recruit. You are the Representatives of The United States Of America. Book every talk show that will have you and intimidate those who are on the fence. Place articles in newspapers, start clubs, use your celebrity status to save our country, It doesn't take a genius to see we are in the worst trouble of our nations history, Please, Help me to stop the rot from within. We've got to fight, fight and fight hard. Some of you may even have to break a sweat, but it beats losing our country.

Enjoy!
A ridiculous piece of propaganda that can only validate liberals' self-righteousness and feelings of superiority. Right up the same alley as the pair of self-published picture books being peddled on the web, Why Mommy [Daddy] is a Democrat.
Truly an insult to anyone with shred of intelligence. Will not be taken seriously by anyone with enough sense to come in out of the rain or as much sense as God gave geese.
Nappy,
You are one of those insulting people with hardly a shred of intelligence. Look who McCain picked as VP nominee? How intelligent is that! Why didn't you run?
Bush-Cheney-McCain-Rice is old hat..time for something NEW and positive. Why should we go backwards to please a fortunate few?
I have been a lifelong Democrat. But now, I have to say I'm ashamed of my party, and the people of this country. To let ourselves be led like sheep to slaughter without a care in the world is outragous. We elect a man to be President without even basic proof that he was born in this country.
I had thought that my husband and myself had provided pretty well for our three children, but now - half of our savings is gone, and we are uncertain about our future.
We have lost our American way. It's been replaced by a man who quite clearly hates America and what she stands for. We'll keep fighting the good fight - to uncertain ends, but things had better change - and soon while there is still an America to call home.
Thank you Mr Voight, for being one of our best. I'd vote for you for President any day of the week and twice on Sunday!
