JTA: Rome's mayor favors giving Gilad Shalit citizenship - '...During a public menorah-lighting ceremony Sunday, Mayor Gianni Alemanno said the proposal, put forward by Rome Jewish Community President Riccardo Pacifici, seemed like "an excellent idea." Alemanno added that he wanted to extend the honor "to give a sign of solidarity to the Jewish community."'
