This is just a quick link to follow -- an "aside." These are links to interesting things that, for one reason or another, I didn't place into a full posting. Click the link to visit the full article. Go to the blog index for a regular listing of posts.
Patrick Poole: Hamas Supporter's Grievance Theater at the Army War College - '...Whether there is any truth to [Sherifa] Zuhur’s claims is clearly for the commandant and USAWC to sort out. What should be noted, however, is that Zuhur has played the grievance game before in 2000 when she was informed that her contract with the American University of Cairo (AUC) would not be renewed. Her response in that case included filing an unsuccessful EEOC complaint charging discrimination on the basis of gender and national origin, claiming suppression of academic freedom, organizing petitions and letters from colleagues to the AUC provost, and going on a hunger strike in protest...'
Patrick Poole has attacked ordinary Muslims in Ohio & elsewhere in the US, making egregious statements -- so beware the source. The inaccurate details in his posting on Zuhur include the idea that the conflict at AUC merely involved her contract renewal (not so, many others were subject to discrimination, group of Egyptian professors won in their effort to teach beyond the age of 50), and also the wording suggesting she sent petitions out on her own behalf. AUC students, and a scholarly organization circulated a petition defending her record and a very large number of senior scholars defended her as they were familiar with AUC's treatment of faculty and problems with academic freedom.
