This is just a quick link to follow -- an "aside." These are links to interesting things that, for one reason or another, I didn't place into a full posting. Click the link to visit the full article. Go to the blog index for a regular listing of posts.
US Rep.: $900M In Gaza Aid Should Depend On End Of Rocket Attacks, Release Of Shalit - 'U.S. Rep. Shelley Berkley, D-Nev., a member of the Middle East subcommittee of the U.S. House Foreign Affairs Committee, has sent a letter to Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton demanding that $900 million in proposed Gaza aid for Palestinians be conditioned on ending rocket attacks on Israel from Gaza and having Hamas release kidnapped Israeli soldier Cpl. Gilad Shalit...'
What a concept, a reasonable amount of accountability!!!
Bare minimum, some modification thereof, e.g., give them a minimal amount upon release of Shalit - then for every 60 or 90 day period w/o a single rocket attack, given them $100M. Carrot and stick approach, reality based.
What a thought!!!
Any aid given to Gaza in sacks marked with "From the US" or EU is probably transferred to unmarked or "From your Friends of Hamas" sacks.
It's a classic case of making the victim depend solely on their captor (hamas).
...and this from a Democrat, too! I'm delighted.
Michael B., I couldn't agree more. (I used to advocate that, every time a Gaza rocket hit Israel, Israel should re-occupy one square kilometer of the Gaza Strip, and annex it immediately. This idea does not seem to have been popular.)
