Nice if true, but it sounds to me a lot like Arafat's promise to revise the PLO charter, which is still an unfinished piece of business for the PA and/or the PLO (Seriously, is there a difference? Israel signed agreements with the PLO creating the PA, but it's the same cast of characters just wearing different hats.) to undertake going on two decades later.

People who watched the signing of the Oslo Accords on the White House lawn are still waiting for Arafat and the PLO to renounce violence.

Israelis have learned their lesson and will not recognize Hamas on the strength of an easily broken promise. Let them demonstrate their peaceful intentions by renouncing their charter, reign in terror, stopping the culture of hatred and incitement to violence, starting with their TV programming for kids. Let's just hope that Jeremy Ben Ami et al. don't pressure BHO into granting legitimacy to Hamas on the basis of this promise. Rather, they should hold Hamas's feet to the fire, use back-channels to give them reassurances, but make them deliver first.
