This is just a quick link to follow -- an "aside." These are links to interesting things that, for one reason or another, I didn't place into a full posting. Click the link to visit the full article. Go to the blog index for a regular listing of posts.
Nicholas Kristoff Wouldn't Know The Truth If It Hit Him In The Face And Then Sat On His Head - '...Nicholas Kristoff of The New York Times has joined the anti-Marty Peretz jihad because Peretz -- who runs The New Republic -- allegedly wants to deprive Muslims of their constitutional rights and thinks Muslim life should be viewed as cheap...The disputed arises from Peretz's blog post taking The New York Times to task over the Corboda mosque controversy...'
How unsurprising that Nicholas Kristoff, the NYT's moral exemplar, whose answer to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict is that the former must stop oppressing the latter, would dishonestly parse Marty Peretz's words. http://www.nytimes.com/2010/07/01/opinion/01kristof.html?ref=nicholasdkristof
An indulgence in an obtuse and superficially tendentious reading of Peretz for the purpose of an au courant, PC, moralistic supremicism, and not a little self-regard.
Cheapjack moral triumphalsim; not at all uncommon, to the contrary.
Nevertheless, Peretz himself did some soul-searching and apologized:

This doesn't mean that Kristof doesn't give me a headache.
But Marty can be OTT sometimes and even he recognizes it.
